To Be or Not To Be a Supermarket in Tavistock
West Devon Borough Council are to carry out a retail study where no doubt the question of whether a supermarket is needed in Tavistock.will be raised. This will follow on the heels of the Core Strategy which, if and when it is adopted at the Full Council Meeting on the 19 April 2011 will result in a further 750 houses being built in Tavistock.
These additional houses will dramatically impact on the demographics and infrastructure of the Town and will influence the shopping needs in the future. Incoming people will be looking wider for their shopping, well practised in seeking out and travelling to supermarkets, together with the skill of shopping by internet . The Town Centre will still have a role to play when accessing it’s specialist shops and enjoying it’s heritage and character.
The town is already losing footfall to areas such as Roborough, Okehamton and Launceston to enjoy access to quality and choice.for their shopping needs.and very importantly PARKING. When the retail study comes out for public consultation please make sure your voice is heard.
